One of the things that drew us to this property was the woods and the hiking trails. As it turns out, 75% of the woods was a swamp. So there was no trail to take the horses. So we sold all the sheep and all the animals except for two minitiares. My marriage ended. Apparently, my husband liked living apart.
But, good news, we found a new farm. This one is better suited to our needs. It has a large barn and loft, a riding arena, and fenced pastures. We are bringing the sheep back and a couple leisure horses to enjoy. At the moment, we do not intend to bring any other animals to the farm. But that is open to change.
Farm Girl and I are running the operation alone but are up to the challenge. We are both super busy but think it will be easier to manage with barns. Keeping the sheep housed reduces a lot in labour and "keeping a watchful eye" on the sheep 24/7. This will free us up to work on other projects.
Some photos from the farm to share.
There is a big driveshed on the property that we plan to use for quarantine pens since we don't have any farm equipment to store. Yet.
There is a large pasture behind the house for the horses. This photo is the front part along the road.
The smaller pasture on the opposite side of the laneway is split in three sections.
There are shelters in the pastures. That truly excites us.
The main barn. LOVE it! So much room for hay storage in the loft!
There are two smaller pastures behind the barn where we will keep the miniatures for now.
A closeup of the miniature pasture. That's Farm Girl going to check out their shelter.
And then the last outbuilding is a riding arena. Farm Girl plans on bringing the some horses back but mostly our intention is to fill it with a huge HUGE flock of sheep some day. We think big. :-)
Oldest got engaged on Valentine's Day this year and I'm hoping to convince her to hold her wedding at the farm. It's got so much room for parking and guests and if we laid a portable floor in the arena, we could hold the reception in there.
There's also a beautiful pond at the back of the property that once the leaves grow backin, will make a gorgeous backdrop.
But that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.
Anyway, there you have it. The new farm. Once we move in and have set up shop, I'll take more photos of the interior of the house.
This is a nice-looking farm with spacious buildings. Sorry your marriage ended. Wishing you all the best as a long-time reader.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous after looking at these pictures. I can almost smell the farm from here after those pictures hit my computer. I would load up that farm with horses and donkeys as far as the eyes can see. You really have the life, I wish you all the best and hope to see more pictures from the farm.
