My son's long hard year of work is finally paying off. One of his rabbits gave birth. She is the only one who took so there won`t be any other rabbit kits arriving. He`s very excited as you can imagine. There were many times he wanted to quit but he stuck to it and now finally his first litter. Fingers crossed he doesn`t loose any as mom is a questionable mother. She did not use the nesting box we placed in her pen but chose a corner instead. This is not safe for the kits who squirm around the pen looking for mom, so I placed them and the bedding in the nesting box and hope she follows willingly.
UPDATE: The kits did not survive. Mom rejected them and they died within hours of being born. Our first birth on the farm for 2013 also became our first death. Fingers crossed that number doesn't rise. Much.
Oh, I am sorry. How many did you lose here?
ReplyDeleteMamas are unpredictable, esp. rabbit mamas. I cross my fingers that your losses stay low.
She only had the two and both died. We usually have more than that but maybe next time.
