Pup Walks Pup

Farm Girl and Oldest went away for the weekend to an event held by the Junior Farmers organization they are members of.  Once a year the organization holds a winter games event on a Saturday in the middle of February.  It is hosted by a preselected club from somewhere in Ontario.  This is the second year it is being held across province.  The girls will be on the road 8+ hours today and Sunday.  It works out that they will be driving more than they will be at the winter games.  But they really enjoy it and are willing to make the sacrifice.

Anyway, since they had to leave nice and early this morning, Oldest left me her charge to look after for the day.

Parker is a 8 month old St. Bernard.  He's very sweet, gentle and a real kind puppy.  But he hasn't been taught his recall yet.  St. Bernard's are what I call a winter dog.  They love being outdoors more then they do the indoors during winter.  They would be quite happy if you were to set up a couch on the top of a snow drift.  In -15 degrees weather.  In the middle of a snow storm.  So trying to call him in after playtime can be a challenge.  We've had no choice but to leash him until his owners have got his recall down pat.  Meanwhile, I got a little helping hand keeping him on the property.

Jewel loves her role as dog handler.

Funny thing is, he doesn't resist and lets the young pup lead him around dutifully.

"No, Harley, I found him first!  He's my plaything!"
